will maintaining an active lifestyle help me tone down or do i have to constantly be targeting a specific muscle in order to see improvement? because i think of dancers and how they're constantly active yet some of my dancer friends aren't doing sets of like 5 different ab workouts.

Depends on how active you are and what activities you do. For instance, an active dancer burns fat all over and builds muscle in the lower body, while a bodybuilder can strength train to build muscle in a specific area like the arms. The two are mutually inclusive but it depends on what you’re aiming for - an active lifestyle will mostly burn fat all over, while targeting specifics builds muscle in that area.
